The Polish Automobile and Motorcycle Federation together with GTC initiated a project in the area of road safety, concerning the protection of drivers and passengers in vehicles standing at the end of traffic jams, on the example of the AmberOne A1 Motorway.
PZM, a well-known organization with many years of experience in the field of motor and motor sports, draws attention to a critical place on the road safety map. In places where traffic jams form on expressways, the last vehicles are at risk of being hit by oncoming vehicles.
Unfortunately, this is exactly what happens. Recently, there have been a large number of fatal accidents on Polish motorways and expressways, caused by vehicles that ran over the back of other vehicles standing at the end of traffic jams.
The problem is growing. The challenge taken up by the project group led by PZM is not only to theorize and analyze the phenomenon, but also to find practical solutions that will effectively eliminate the risk of collisions.
Road congestion on motorways and expressways is created in particular:
- on sections of road works,
- at the sites of accidents resulting in road closures,
- in front of toll booths.
The research area is the AmberOne A1 Motorway (a section of the A1 motorway between Gdańsk and Toruń), due to the occurrence of the above-mentioned causes of congestion.
“We prioritize all aspects of the safety of our passengers, which is why the AmberOne A1 Motorway is actively joining this campaign, inscribing it in our over 10-year mission under the slogan Safety, my middle name,” assures Wojciech Mąkinia, Vice President of the Management Board of GTC S.A., the concessionaire of the AmberOne A1 Motorway. “The project initiated by PZM is particularly close to us and close to our hearts now, during several years of renovation works that we will carry out until 2028. We are convinced that such a respectable group of experts who are involved in this process bodes well for the improvement of safety on all roads.
The project of the Polish Automobile and Motorcycle Association, fully titled Safety and protection of users of motorways and expressways located in vehicles standing at the end of traffic jams, on the example of the A1 motorway on the Gdańsk – Toruń section, was under the patronage of the Pomeranian Road Safety Council.
A whole pantheon of institutions has been involved in the cooperation, whose knowledge and experience will certainly contribute to the development of effective solutions:
- Department of Transport Engineering, Gdańsk University of Technology,
- Provincial Police Headquarters in Gdańsk,
- Provincial Police Headquarters in Bydgoszcz,
- Provincial Inspectorate of Road Transport in Gdańsk,
